Candy D Celik | | Hi Reg,
Thought I would see if you would share with us a bit more about databases...
Some hosting companies offer unlimited or a high number of databases and some only offer very few...
Why is that? and what does it do or not do for the hosting provider? I hope that made sense..
Thus far, I have only needed 2 or three for my sites so I can install scripts, but sometimes I find things that I would like to add to my site and it requires a database that I don't have.
What is the reason why many hosting providers set a limit on them?
Thanks in advance..
Candy

Scott Wolpow | | Becasue they are a drain on the server. If the data calls are not done properly then it can cause real slow downs. The other main reason is to get you to upgrade.

Candy D Celik | | Thank you Scott for the quick response..
Now that you mention the upgrade part... That's exactly what happened to a friend of mine.. They thought they had a really great hosting package and then later they found they only had one database and they would have to purchase more, but it would mean an extra $2 per month. Don't sound like a lot of money, but when she added that to the cost of her monthly plan, well... the package didn't turn out to be that great compared to what other hosts would offer..
Thanks again..

Reg Charie | | Hey Denise, I just upped your max from 3 to 6 databases. Have you looked through the list of automatic installs in your cPanel's Fantastico Icon?

Candy D Celik | | Reg,
You are awesome...!!!!!
Seriously, I was happy with three... but 6?
I'm a lucky girl..
I'm still not yet understanding how a host can offer unlimited databases if they are a strain on a server? Or, is it because the odds of the customer actually using them is low?
Thanks CandyPrivate Reply to Candy D Celik |

Reg Charie | | Most welcome Candy.
It all depends on the size of the database and the use it gets. Most are small, but then you get ones like Scott has.. :)
